Alaska Public Defender Agency - Bethel office

If you are charged with a crime (or in a child-in-need-of-aid case) and cannot afford a lawyer, the court can appoint the Public Defender Agency. The Bethel office serves the Bethel court and villages: 907-543-2488 or toll-free 1-800-478-2489, PO Box 10, Bethel. Ask the court clerk for the application for court-appointed counsel at your first hearing. Cases with a conflict go to the Office of Public Advocacy (OPA), which also has a Bethel office.
