State Heating Assistance Program (LIHEAP / AAHP) — 2026-27 season
One-time yearly credit on your fuel or electric-heat account. IMPORTANT: you cannot receive state heating assistance if you are eligible to apply through a tribal organization — in Bethel that usually means ONC, and applying to the wrong office delays your benefit. LIHEAP is for households up to 150% of poverty; the Alaska Affordable Heating Program covers 150-225%. 2026-27 monthly income limits: 1 person $3,739; 2 $5,071; 3 $6,401; 4 $7,733; 5 $9,065; 6 $10,395 (+$1,331 each extra person). A new application is posted after September 1; grants start the first working day of October; regular applications are accepted October 1 - April 30. Crisis assistance (out of fuel, or a shut-off within 48 hours) is accepted September 1 - June 30. Apply online through Alaska Connect, at the Bethel Public Assistance office (460 Ridgecrest Dr Ste 121), by fax to 888-269-6520 or by email to [email protected]. Questions 800-478-7778.
