KIC Tlingit Language Program (Tlingit & Haida language)
Ketchikan Indian Community's Tlingit Language Program posts a 'Tlingit Word of the Day' (Southern and Taant'á dialects), records elders' place-name histories (Kichx̱áan Héeni = Ketchikan Creek), teaches Haida language too, and leads an initiative to rename Schoenbar Middle School to Kichx̱áan Héeni. It teaches the Tlingit Language & Culture I class at Ketchikan High School (5th and 6th period), which counts for a Language OR Social Studies credit - students must transfer in within the first two weeks of school. Questions: 907-228-9487.
